This course will provide an examination of some of the major ethical issues involved in the practice of medicine, medical research, and health care policy. Topics to be explored include ethical theory and its application, health care practitioner-patient relationship, confidentiality, truth telling, informed consent, research ethics, scarce medical resources, genetics, abortion, futility, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide, end-of-life care, and religion and medicine. These topics will be explored for their technological, ethical, philosophical and religious implications.
