Course Description:
An examination of some of the major ethical issues involved in the practice of medicine, medical research, and health care policy. Prerequisite: Sophomore level or above.
Overview: This course will provide an examination of some of the major ethical issues involved in the practice of medicine, the history and rationale for the rise of bioethics, medical research, and health care policy. Topics to be explored include the eugenics movement, health care practitioner-patient relationship, confidentiality, embryonic and fetal ethics, transplantation ethics, enhancement, artificial life, affordable care, immigrant care, and end-of-life issues. These topics will be explored for their technological, ethical, philosophical and religious implications.
