An introduction to the highly interdisciplinary study of environmental science. Topics include: human civilization development and use of energy; non-renewable resources; renewable resources; biodiversity including endangered species, introduced species, and problems facing earth's major ecosystems; soil structure and ecosystem services; the importance, cycling, and use of water; air quality responses to energy use; climate change impacts and mediation. The lab exercises include field and lab components. Lecture 3 hours per week, lab 3 hours per week with field trips. Prerequisites: None.
